Let me introduce myself.

Hi, nice to meet you.

My name is Walt Viviers, I was born in South Africa in 1985. Nine years before apartheid was over. It’s been 32 years since I was born. I’m a husband now, and father to a beautiful baby girl, as well as stepfather to a young adult boy and two teenage girls. I’m a Creative Director during the day and fancy myself as a bit of an artist and writer.

After many years of tackling with religion, I now consider myself a secular humanist. I’m also a major science fiction enthusiast. I have a passion for writing, reading, listening to opinions, and sharing my own opinion. The topics I want to talk about in this blog include creativity, secularism and science fiction. From my perspective; a creative director & family man.

If you’re a South African or have any of these interests, you should find this blog interesting. I plan to share essays, tutorials, and tips on staying creative. Covering topics such as art, writing, books, science fiction and beliefs: all products of the human imagination; our tool of creativity.

I’m writing this for people like you, people like me: nerds, geeks, creatives, futurists. Anyone who appreciates creativity, the human mind, human ingenuity, and those who enjoy envisioning the future (which often requires reflecting on the past). To be blunt, I’m writing this for me, and anyone like me.

Being a secular nerd, born in a pre-apartheid, very religious era has left me in a very strange, and often lonely place. I am grateful to see this country change, as I don’t have time for racists or other bigots, but I oftentimes feel like the whole world is going insane.

I enjoy Star Trek and very much embody the ethos of that show. My wife and daughter are the anchors in my life, and I am grateful for my career and the opportunity to be creative on a daily basis.

I want to share my knowledge and ideas with people like (and unlike) me. In about three to six months I’m hoping to find my groove and work out all the niggles. I want to connect with people who feel they can talk to me. I aim to be an open, honest, and passionate blogger. I’m not here to sell you bullshit. I’m here to connect with like-minded individuals.

Now, tell me about yourself. I encourage comments and would love to feature some guest posts. You can email me here if you have questions, suggestions or complaints. You are more than welcome to reach out to me if you need to. I also encourage disagreements and am open to changing my mind as well as doing follow up posts. I appreciate and encourage any and all feedback.

Thanks for getting to know me, I’d like to get to know you too.
